A&O brings in bonus pot to take on US rivals

first_imgMagic Circle firm Allen & Overy has put in place a performance-related bonus pool, in addition to its graded wage structure, in a sign that top UK firms are seeking to compete with their US counterparts for talent. The proposal to change lockstep, where salaries are based purely on seniority, was first outlined to partners last February, and formally approved with more than 90% support last July. The scheme came into effect from December 1. News of the reforms emerged from the firm this week.‘The lockstep now allows for a discretionary points pool to assist in attracting and retaining truly exceptional partners and lateral hires,’ a spokesman at A&O said. But he added that lockstep would remain the basis for the majority of partner compensation.‘This evolution reflected the partnership’s desire to maintain the lockstep while providing the flexibility the business needs to remain competitive and grow our global market share.’The move comes as other magic circle firms also review their remuneration models, instigated by the merit-based systems American firms use.’UK law firms are competing in a globalised market for talent which they can only do by removing lockstep,’ Scott Gibson, director of the legal recruiter Edwards Gibson, said.last_img read more

Dangerous robbery, assault suspect added to Tennessee’s Most Wanted list

first_img Related Tennessee Bureau of Investigation(NEW YORK) — A robbery and assault suspect who authorities say should be considered armed and dangerous has been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted list.Dewayne Halfacre, 42, accused of robbing two store clerks in Almaville on Jan. 19, is wanted for aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, false imprisonment and theft, the TBI said. While his alleged partner, Timothy Howell, 51, was taken into custody on Monday, Halfacre has eluded authorities, the Times Free Press reported. The search for Halfacre temporarily closed some schools this week, the Times Free Press said. Halfacre should be considered armed and dangerous due to his history of violence, TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland told ABC News. The TBI said he also has outstanding warrants for burglary and vandalism in Marion County; probation violation in Moore County; driving on a revoked license; leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving; and armed robbery and aggravated assault in Georgia.Niland said Halfacre could be anywhere, including out of state.“We don’t know where he is,” she said. “He’s from one county, he committed crimes in another county, he’s got history in a third county [and] he has charges pending out of Georgia.”  A reward up to $2,500 is being offered for information leading to Halfacre’s arrest.Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. Inzaghi: ‘Lazio deserved more in Europe’

first_imgSimone Inzaghi admits Lazio’s Europa League chances are “hanging by a thread,” but insists they “deserved six points against Celtic.” The Biancocelesti are practically out of the Europa League after a dismal run of results, throwing away leads against Cluj and Celtic (twice). They host CFR Cluj on Thursday evening and are already six points adrift of the Romanians, who are in second place. “It’s a Europa League game, where our qualification hopes are hanging by a thread,” confessed the coach in his press conference. “Until we are mathematically ruled out, we’ll do all we can to progress. It’s our own fault we are in this situation, but it’s also due to external factors, as against Celtic when it was 1-1, there was a clear penalty on Ciro Immobile that could’ve changed the match. “We also know that we really should’ve done better. We’ve been playing excellent football in Serie A and thoroughly deserve to be in third place. We could’ve had a better draw in the Europa League and our performances didn’t match the results. “Lazio have the quality to go through this group, but it’s looking likely we won’t. We were unable to get incidents to go our way, as a great team should. “We want to win every game. We deserved six points against Celtic and ended up with zero. Paradoxically, we only won against Rennes after our worst performance. “I would make the same choices going back, as the players weren’t always ready for three games in a week, so we had to rotate.” Felipe Caicedo came off the bench to score the winner at Sassuolo on Sunday, but he has a slight ankle problem and will need a fitness test. “I’ll try to field a competitive team, but also aware that we have another game coming up on Sunday. Marco Parolo and Danilo Cataldi will certainly play, while Manuel Lazzari has to sacrifice himself and push through, seeing as Adam Marusic is suspended,” explained Inzaghi. “I don’t know if Bobby Adekanye will start or come off the bench, but he will certainly have some playing time. He is young and has a lot of work to do. “Thomas Strakosha had flu yesterday, but it was already planned that Silvio Proto would be in goal tomorrow, as he is reliable.” Watch Serie A live in the UK on Premier Sports for just £11.99 per month including live LaLiga, Eredivisie, Scottish Cup Football and more. Indian spinner Karn Sharma eager to meet Shane Warne in Australia

first_imgKarn Sharma has received his maiden call-up in the Indian Test team against AustraliaRailways leg-spinner Karn Sharma is ecstatic after his maiden call-up in the Indian Test team and is looking forward towards a chance to meet the legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne during the upcoming Test series against Australia Down Under.”It is any leg-spinner’s dream to meet the greatest of them all — Shane Warne. Obviously, I am eager to meet Warne if I get a chance during the upcoming tour of Australia. It will be a nice experience if I can get some tips on the subtle nuances of leg-spin bowling from him,” 27-year-old Karn said from Nagpur, where he scored 32 and picked up three wickets, in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh on Monday.Karn missed out on playing against Warne as he got his maiden IPL contract after Warne had quit playing in the cash-rich league.Karn, who made his senior India debut against England in a one-off T20 in Birmingham is happy that he is now in contention for a place in longer version.”It’s a proud moment for me that I have been selected in the Test team. Every cricketer aspires to wear the whites for his country. I would give my hundred per cent if I get a chance to play in the Test matches,” said Karn, who has 66 wickets from 34 first-class matches for Railways.Asked if he has got any advice from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni during his maiden stint with the Indian team in England, Karn said, “Dhoni bhai had been very encouraging from the start. He told me on my debut that I have to focus on keeping things simple. The key to doing well at the highest level is getting the basics right on a consistent basis. That has been his advice and I have tried to followed that.”advertisementKarn has had the experience of playing in Australia for India A in a quadrangular tournament, where he played in four matches.”Obviously, having played for India A in Australia will be of huge help. Atleast I have some idea about the conditions over there. I am expecting that the pitches there will help my style of wrist spin bowling.”A powerful left-hander, Karn has scored over 1000 (1087) runs in first-class cricket with a century and seven half-centuries and is also keen on doing well with the willow.”I am ready to bat at any position where the team management would want me to bat. I enjoy my batting would be happy to contribute to the team’s cause,” said the lad from Meerut.last_img read more
