TAZARA takes delivery of locos and coaches

first_imgAFRICA: Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority has taken delivery of four diesel-electric locomotives and 18 coaches supplied from China. TAZARA expects the new equipment valued at US$22·4m to have a ‘substantial impact’ on its operations, which have been suffering from reduced capacity as a result of the age of the fleet and a lack of money for maintenance. The delivery is expected to increase daily locomotive availability from 12 to 16, and extend the mean distance between failures from 6 015 km to 7 098 km.The new coaches would provide a ‘firm footing’ for restoration of the ‘reputation for which TAZARA passenger trains have been renowned’ in the past. The railway said that 10 years ago it ran six trains/week carrying more than 900 000 passengers/year, but the shortage of serviceable stock has brought a drop to four trains/week carrying 455 000 passengers, with delays and breakdowns becoming ‘a common occurrence’. TAZARA’s Dar es Salaam workshop has also begun a programme to rehabilitate 24 out-of-use coaches, with one third class coach completed at a cost of US$21 000 using internal resources. The construction of TAZARA was backed by China, and the railway has since been supported through a series of Protocols of Economic & Technical Co-operation between the governments of China, Tanzania and Zambia. The latest delivery was financed with an interest-free Chinese loan under the 15th protocol which was signed in March 2012 and covers a total of 12 projects worth US$42m over three years. TAZARA has already taken delivery of two shunting locomotives, as well as rescue and lifting equipment, trolleys, assorted spare parts and 30 000 wooden sleepers, while Chinese experts have been seconded to TAZARA and staff training undertaken. The final delivery under the 15th protocol will be a batch of locomotive and wagon spare parts which is scheduled to arrive in December. Watching the unloading of the new locomotives at Dar es Salaam, Acting Managing Director Ronald Phiri said Chinese economic and technical support had ‘kept TAZARA afloat’ while awaiting a much-needed re-capitalisation and restructuring. ‘We remain eternally grateful to the government and the people of China for their constant and positive association with TAZARA, which they helped build some forty years ago and have continued to prop up unreservedly throughout the years’, he said.Tanzanian TAZARA employees have been taken onto the civil service payroll, and the government is to release US$2·75m this month to clear outstanding salary arrears, purchase fuel and undertake track and rolling stock maintenance.last_img read more

About Connatix V56892center_img 360p 720p HD 1/1 Weems said she was told Monday “the decision had been made, and to prepare (herself).””This is an emotional decision for Bob,” Weems said. “He doesn’t just flip a switch on and off, this is a hard decision for him.”Motzko held a meeting with the team Monday afternoon to inform them of his decision.”Obviously, there had been a lot of speculation, so we had a feeling what the meeting was about,” freshman Blake Lizotte said.”We touched on the season at first,” Jackson said. “Then (Motzko) got into the meat of it, and it felt like a heart-to-heart.””It was an emotional day, especially for the (upperclassmen),” Lizotte said. “An emotional day for everybody, including Bob and his family.””There was a lot of silence, which was weird because usually we clap at the end of meetings,” Jackson said. “After Motzko and Weems left, no one knew what to do or how to handle it.””Coming fresh off the NCAA Tournament, which was emotional, and now adding this on top of it is emotionally draining as well,” Lizotte said.Weems says Motzko leaves a rich legacy behind at St. Cloud State.”He has truly cared about the student athletes, not only from a skill on ice perspective but from a human perspective,” Weems said. “As an alum, it’s been important that he came and served our university.””Certainly, his (on-ice) success as well,” Weems said.last_img read more

Fox, who plays Pat Houston in the biopic, says she spoke to Brown.“I did see Bobby and he let me know he wasn’t happy with us doing the film,” Fox tells ABC Radio.“And my reaction to him was, ‘Bobby, give it a chance. Trust me. Knowing that the majority of the cast knows you — has respect and love for you and Whitney — we’re not going to do nothing to make you look bad.’”Fox says Brown’s reaction was “him being a natural protective father.”She says TV One also “reached out and communicated with him to look at the film.”Hassan Johnson, who plays Brown in the film, agrees with Foxas, adding that Brown should understand that the film comes from “a place of love…and.. respect.”“I came with all the sincerity and consideration in the world, for what Bobbi has been through, with the loss of his wife and his daughter,” Johnson explains.  “So I just felt like it was a duty to do him some justice and to represent.”For the youngest star of the film, Joy Rovaris, who plays Bobbi Kristina, the biopic was a “personal” project.“I’ve always been such a Whitney fan that…it felt personal to me,” she explained.  “I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything exploitative or that would shed a bad light.”Bobbi Kristina airs Sunday, October 8 at 7 p.m.

Le 10 décembre 2018 à 17:31 • Marina Marcoutlast_img read more
