EU funds Napoli – Bari upgrade
ITALY: The European Commission has approved the allocation of €124m from the European Regional Development Fund to support upgrading of 16·5 km of the Napoli – Bari route between Cancello and Frasso Telesino.This includes double-tracking to provide an increase in speed and capacity, the construction of stations at Valle Maddaloni and Frasso Telesino/Dugenta and the provision of a connection to enable freight trains to be directly routed to the Maddaloni Marcianise yard without impacting other services.‘This EU project will give a boost to local economies in Napoli, Caserta, Benevento, Foggia and Bari, with shorter travel time for inhabitants and tourists’, said Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc on October 8. ‘In the long run, this railway line, and the many others built with EU funding in southern Italy, will contribute to better quality of air in the region.’

Tweet Vinna RoyerAn advocate for cancer care will receive Dominica’s third highest award of honour during the National Independence Rally on November 3.Former St Joseph school teacher and former president of the Dominica Cancer Society, Vinna Royer will receive the award for her contribution towards cancer care and awareness on the island.This was announced by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at an award ceremony for twenty-five (25) St Joseph residents, including Mrs Royer, on Thursday, 17th October.Mrs Royer, who is one of the founding members of the Dominica Cancer Society and a cancer survivor has been advocating for better treatment facilities and funding for cancer patients. She has also been instrumental in educating the public and raising awareness about cancers which affect both men and women.“I am really surprised but excited,” Mrs Royer told Dominica Vibes after the announcement.She said this recognition is not only for her, but for the people whom she serves as well as those she works with.The Society has also been advocating for the establishment of a cancer treatment centre here which would reduce in the cost incurred by cancer patients for treatment overseas.“I pray that at some point in time there will be no cancer patients to work with, [but] as long as there remains persons to be served, I want to make myself available to serve”. “I don’t think it is only a matter for serving the Cancer Society, I think it has to do with community service as a whole,” she continued.Mrs Royer has also been very active within her community through service on the village council as well as in her church.She believes the award she will receive indicates government’s recognition for cancer care in Dominica.“I consider it a plus because it says that government is recognizing, people are listening, people are taking note. As long as people are taking note, we can expect to get better service”.Prime Minister Skerrit further announced that his government will assist seven Dominican cancer patients to travel abroad for treatment as per a request made by the Cancer Society.Mr Skerrit said the funding for that purpose was approved on Thursday. Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with this diagnosis generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say, but have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. There is no cure and treatment often requires many years of intense speech therapy. Sarah White, Chair of the Board for Apraxia Kids discusses how their organization has had to adapt during the COVID-19 emergency: “Our 45 online support groups on Facebook are active and providing parents with a safe and supportive outlet for asking questions, sharing frustrations, and offering hope. Points and position do not matter especially to Dunbeholden’s President Donovan Witter, who believes that, not only does his team have the ammunition to get the job done, but that they have only been outplayed in one match. “The reality is that we approach each game with one objective, which is to try and gain three points, and tomorrow’s (today’s) game will be no less so,” Witter said. “We have analysed all the games that we have played so far and, apart from the first game where we lost 1-3 to Cavalier, we have not been out played by any team,” Witter declared boldly. There is only one issue of concern for Dunbeholden heading into this big matchup. “The major challenge that we will have is that our captain and senior defender Shaquille Dyer will be out on cards. Apart from that, we are physically and mentally ready.” With Dyer out, Andre Dyce should anchor the backline with Nickoy Christian orchestrating the midfield. Dean-Andre Thomas should get good support from Andrae McFarlane and Rodave Murray who is recovering from his injuries. IMPROVED GOALSCORING Mount Pleasant’s Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis credits goalscoring for his team’s transformation. “We are scoring goals. The chances that we are getting, we are now scoring. That is the major difference. It is nothing fancy, we are doing the simple things. Putting away chances is important,” said Davis, who took over from Dovovan Duckie early in the season. Mount Pleasant had their best result with a 3-1 win over leaders Waterhouse and have not looked back since. Others such as Daniel Green, Cardel Benbow and Ronaldo Rodney will be important if they are to get a victory. Defending champions Portmore United will host leaders Waterhouse in the rematch of last season’s final. Based on form, Waterhouse are expected to exact revenge, while Humble Lion should be favoured to get the better of struggling UWI when both teams meet at Effortville. Second-place Molynes United have been on a four-game winless run and will be happy to see 10th-place Tivoli Gardens, while bottom-of-the-table Vere United will be hoping home advantage will do the trick against the visiting Cavalier. Whether it be vintage white, lace up sweaters in the NHL, the gray-crowned hats of the 1990s in MLB, the teal invasion of the 1990s, BFBS in the 2000s, the retro movement of the 2010s, or other trends that group together identites instead of separating them, we can talk about them at will for hours. After all, isn’t the point of a uniform or logo to be able to identify one team from the other? This is the thread to celebrate how your favorite team is unique from the rest of the league (NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA, Division 1, Division 2, MLS, etc.). Still, as we are sure to see in this thread, your teams uniqueness might not exactly mean it’s a good idea.Rules:1) Any sport or league is fine.2) Only include primary logos, alternate logos, and jerseys. Anniversary logos, stadium logos, and other miscellaneous things don’t count.3) It might be an identity trait that no other team in that league shares. Mistakes are fine and everyone is welcome to point them out when they happen, but that’s the general rule for this thread.4) Present and past uniqueness is welcome. However, keep present examples lined up in the same era. For example, the Baltimore Orioles are the only team wearing a white front-paneled cap from 2012 – Present. Obviously there have been white-paneled caps in the past, but for now, the Orioles are the only one. For past examples, keep in mind that the present counts with it. If something unique happened in the past but that characteristic is here in the present, you should not use that as an example.
